TIME!
5 rounds for time, 4 rounds for time, 21-15-19, AMRAP... the most satisfying moment in any CrossFit workout is shouting out "TIME!" once the work is completed (or the coach calling time to end our misery). The clock is a huge component of any CrossFit workout. We work out to become faster, leaner, stronger... we spend more time in the gym to achieve these goals.
And after we leave the gym, what then? What do we do with our time? How do we spend our time in the gym? Some days I sit down to spend some quiet time in scripture, reading, and prayer and I know exactly what I want to focus on--whether it be confession, interceding for others, or asking God for direction/clarification/etc. Other days I sit down, and I'm not sure what will come out of it. Today was one of those days, and what came out of it, was "time."
Anxiety is one of the leading mental health disorders in America, and many speculate that it is due to the increased busyness of modern life. So often we hear "I need more time" to complete tasks, honey-do lists, homework. But do we really need more time?
Ann Voskamp, in her book One Thousand Gifts (2010) shares, "In my reality-dream (dream-reality?), I grasp for more time, frantic for more time. But I have to wonder: more time for more what?"(p. 29) The rest of her book shares her journey of learning to live life to the fullest--to be ready to die--by living in the moment with gratitude for the many gifts given to her. This is the part that struck me today, "They say time is money, but that's not true. Time is life. And if I want the fullest life, I need to find the fullest time...Oh yes, I know you, the busyness of your life leaving little time for the source of your life...God gives us time. And who has time for God?"(p. 64)
Friends, can you stop and let that sink in? "God gives us time. And who has time for God?"
Do we not realize how vitally important our time with God is? He is the Provider, the Sustainer, the Healer, the Defender. Ephesians 6:10-19 reminds us that we are engaged in a spiritual battle and calls us to stand! How can we stand if we are too busy focused on the temporal to train in the eternal? How can we combat the lies of Satan who attacks us daily if we do not know the truth of God to counter it?
It is New Year's Eve... many resolutions will be made tomorrow to get in shape, pay off debt, be healthier. My prayer is that God will use the next year to show me how to invest my time to live the fullest life.
All of this reminds me of the song Timekeeper by Alanna Story:

I'm going to try to link to the youtube video:Time is relentless like a river flowsNo regard for the moment—Never stops, never slowsAll the earth sings the song of the ticking clockAnd I move to its rhythm ‘cause the rhythm won’t stop.Yes, I move to its rhythm ‘cause the rhythm won’t stop.Hey Timekeeper, I just need more time to find You.Find You in the here and now.Hey Timekeeper, I just need more time to find You.Find You in the here and now.Timekeeper slow the whole thing down. You made time and You gave it as a gift,Yet I find no time for you—there’s just not enough of it.But all my hurried rushing gives me nothing in return. All my haste makes waste, and my hurrying just hurts. All my haste makes waste, and my hurrying just hurts.Hey Timekeeper, I just need more time to find You.Find You in the here and now.Hey Timekeeper, I just need more time to find You.Find You in the here and now.Timekeeper slow the whole thing down
