Check out this one simple trick!!!!
Just... no. Stop.
I hate... hate... HATE those tag lines.
"One simple trick to lose weight!"
"Five steps to a new you in 4 hours" (ok, might be exaggerated a bit)
"Discover the paleo secret to rapid weight loss..."
"5 tricks to a happier you"
Becoming a better person or losing weight or getting in shape does not happen over night. If it did, I would already be down another two sizes and would have done that a year ago. Perhaps I'm more overly sensitive to food and weight and health since it's been a struggle for me pretty much my whole life. And even now that it's not a struggle, I still have to work hard to keep what I've earned. So when I see tag lines like that, it's a slap in the face of all of my hard work. And not just my hard work, but everyone I know who has worked hard to lose weight or get in shape. I also feel like it's being deceptive. Guess what. I know someone who's deceptive... in fact, he's called the king of all lies. Know what his name is? That's right. Satan.
We look for quick fixes to all of our problems. We are an instant gratification, need it right now kind of people. Life is not about quick fixes. All quick fixes do is hide the real problem underneath.
Our relationship with God and other people is not a quick fix. How can it be? Some of you know, and now the rest of you reading this blog know, that I am going to school to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. One of the big things we are learning is people can't grow, change, or heal overnight... it takes Grace + Truth + Time in Community. I don't know about you, but I don't trust too many people easily. Especially not with "that stuff" that you keep inside of you in the dark places that no one else knows about.
So please, stop with the quick this and quick that, and let's see some real change/growth/healing happen.
::end rant::
PS, I apologize if none of the above seemed to make sense. It was a rant. It's not necessarily supposed to make sense.
